Erin Coffield
Erin Coffield is responsible for the development and execution of national media and communication strategies driven by nutrition-based science at National Dairy Council (NDC). Coffield leads media relations, which includes building media relationships with key health and nutrition reporters; spokesperson support, deskside briefings; and development of communication tools and resources such as press materials, NDC Update and nationaldairycouncil.org. She also is a spokesperson for NDC. Coffield collaborates with Nutrition Research, Nutrition Affairs and Nutrition Leadership on comprehensive communication plans to help communicate new research to health professionals, thought leaders, consumers and other national and industry partners.
Prior to this position, Coffield was Director of Communication for New England Dairy & Food Council (NEDFC) and New England Dairy Promotion Board (NEDPB). Coffield’s primary responsibilities included the supervision of company-wide communications, including issues and crisis management, dairy nutrition PR, food publicity and marketing communications promotions for the retail/supermarket sector and The Great Cheeses of New England; strategic planning, budget forecasting and quarterly updates to the Board of Directors.
Prior to her work at NEDFC/NEDPB, Coffield worked as an Outpatient Dietitian at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston. At BIDMC, Coffield practiced nutrition as a team member for both the cardiac and diabetes clinics; taught Eat Well! weight management classes, facilitated disease prevention workshops, created nutrition education materials and served as a hospital media liaison on current nutrition research and trends. She also worked as a Clinical Dietitian at BIDMC and Youville Hospital and consulted for MIT and Roche Pharmaceuticals.
Coffield holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics – Food and Nutrition from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and completed her dietetic internship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA, where she was awarded intern of the year.
As a registered dietitian, Coffield believes strongly in communicating nutrition and health messages based on sound scientific information. Throughout her career, she has been an active member of the Massachusetts Dietetic Association (MDA) and the American Dietetic Association. She was awarded the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award from MDA in 2006 and sits on the current MDA Board of Directors as Director of Public Relations. She resides in Boston, MA.
